Reynolds School District
Path to Net Zero / Architecture 2030 across three schools
Overview
ecoREAL served on the Owner's Rep team providing sustainability and energy modeling services to optimize the performance of the buildings — and the students — through passive design systems. Summer Fowler led an eco-charrette in pre-design with architects, engineers, stakeholders, and facility managers to pursue Energy Trust's Path to Net Zero program (new at the time), securing additional incentives for energy analysis and systems exceeding goals within a confined budget. ecoREAL's energy analysis also achieved the third pilot of Green Tech Compliance for the State's 1.5% requirement via passive design that reduced energy use by 20% with no mechanical-system additions.
Key contributions
- Eco-charrettes funded by ETO Path to Net Zero — Architecture 2030 energy goals achieved (despite doubts)
- Energy modeling, daylight analyses, and computational fluid dynamics (60% paid by ETO EDA)
- ETO and ODOE Green Tech Compliance reporting
- Path to Net Zero achieved through natural ventilation and an optimized envelope — no added budget
- Natural ventilation and a tight, insulated envelope proved a cost-effective way to meet the EUI target
- Maximized $500,000 in incentives
- WELL Building synergies throughout help kids in a low-income school district perform better on tests, concentrate in the classroom, and reach their potential with better air quality and access to daylight
